5 Reasons to Get Your Cat’s Claws Trimmed

12/26/2014

cat claw trimming | Live.Love.Pet! Oahu, HawaiiGemini loves each and every cat claw trimming appointment.
Want to take extra-good care of your cat? You might want to consider getting your cat’s claws trimmed by a certified cat grooming professional. If you’ve never considered cat claw trimming before, here are five reasons why it’s a great idea.

Saves Your Furniture

Even if your cat has a cat tree or some type of scratch post, just the act of jumping on your couch or favorite easy chair can be enough to cause permanent puncture wounds or scratch marks. The simple act of cat claw trimming can help your furniture always look its best for much longer.

Play Time is More Fun

Have you ever tried to play with your cat and found yourself scratched in the process? Boy does that sting. When you get your cat’s claws trimmed, those accidents won’t happen. Speaking of accidents…

Falling Accidents Are Less Painful

We all like to think of our cats as graceful creatures that hardly ever slip and fall. But most cat owners have suffered through the unfortunate experience where your cat takes a wrong step and tries to cling to your arm or leg for balance. Your cat doesn’t mean to be clumsy or to hurt you, but sometimes these things happen. Scratching accidents will be a thing of the past when you schedule feline cat claw trimming.

Your Indoor Cat Doesn’t Need Sharp Claws

If your cat primarily stays indoors, then claws aren’t really necessary in the grand scheme of things. Your pet is unlikely to have to defend itself, unless you also have a dog that tends to not like your cat. That’s not to say that you need to get your cat declawed altogether, but a cat claw trimming will make living with your cat much more pleasant.

Can Be Included With Your Cat Grooming Appointment

The good news is that you can get your cat’s claws trimmed at his or her next spaw day appointment. To schedule your cat’s appointment, call Live.Love.Pet! at (808) 734-8282 or walk-in by visiting 1126 12th Avenue #103, Honolulu, Hawaii. We are Oahu’s best pet grooming salon and we’d love a chance to prove it to you. Schedule today to give us a chance to pamper and spoil your cat just like you do at home.

As you venture to the mall and all the various shops this holiday season, crossing names off your list as you go, don’t forget about your pet! Your pet provides you with unconditional love all year round. The least you can do is pick up a nice gift to place under the tree and give to your beloved best friend when the Christmas morning comes. If you are stuck on what to buy, here are ten gift ideas to get you started. All of these gift items can be found at Live.Love.Pet! - Hawaii’s only ‘Zen’ grooming spaw & boutique.

  1. Pet Clothes: Just imagine how cool your pet will look and feel in a brand new pet T-shirt, button down Hawaiian shirt or beautiful new pet dress. Your pet will be the best dressed in your neighborhood, paws down.
  2. Pet Jewelry: Spoil your pet with our hand-made pet jewelry made right here in Hawaii. The best part about our custom-made jewelry is that you get a matching piece for you and your pet. It’s like getting a gift for your pet and yourself at the same time!
  3. Nutritious Food: Is your dog or cat tired of the same old pet food you always put in the bowl? It’s time to spice up your pet’s life with our nutritious line of dog food. Every package of food we carry is sourced from trusted companies only and tested by certified ingredient testers. Your pet will say mmm mmm good, every time.
  4. Healthy Snacks: From biscuits and jerky to meat products that feel just like scraps from the table, your pet will know it’s Christmas when you unwrap some of the healthiest snack products that can be found on Oahu.
  5. Home Grooming Supplies: While we recommend that you bring your pet to Live.Love.Pet! every six weeks for regular dog or cat grooming, we do encourage you to maintain that grooming with regular home care. To help you out, we carry shampoos, conditioners, lotions, clippers and many other items that will help to keep your pet looking and smelling great until your very next grooming appointment.
  6. Pet Novelty Items & Toys: Just like kids enjoy receiving toys for Christmas, your pet will love a new toy or novelty item. How about a coffee mug featuring your pet, or a chew toy that makes noise? Make this a very special Christmas by showing your pet just how much you care.
  7. Claw & Paw Care Products: If you don’t regularly trim your pet’s nails or care for their paws, the simple act of walking around could become uncomfortable. We carry all the paw and nail care items you need to keep your pet walking comfortably and in style.
  8. Pet Strollers: Let your pet take a load off for once with one of our fashionable pet strollers.
  9. Pet Beds: Or get your pet a brand new bed, like our new whale pet bed. If your pet doesn’t have a bed, this is the perfect time to remedy that situation.
  10. Cat Towers: To keep your cat from clawing the furniture and to keep him or her occupied, one of our cat towers should do the trick. They’re cheaper than Petco offers them for and they’re all ready to go. Just purchase and set it up. But don’t forget to wrap it before Christmas morning.

Again, you can find all of these holiday pet treats and gifts at Live.Love.Pet! Stop in today and make this a very special Christmas for your special furry someone. We are located at 1126 12th Avenue #103, Honolulu, Hawaii 96816. Or call (808) 734-8282 to learn more.

Top 5 Reasons Why it Pays to Get Your Dog Groomed

12/2/2014

Many dog owners shrug off the idea of pet grooming. Why? There are various reasons. Some owners don’t like the idea of spending money on the grooming process, some think their dog doesn’t need it and many are just unaccustomed to the idea altogether. But no matter how strongly dog owners feel about the above convictions, not grooming your dog is not properly caring for your dog. Here are five major reasons why.

#5: Grooming is Properly Taking Care of Your Dog: A dog groom appointment entails much more than just a hair cut (or fur cut, as the case may be). Your pet’s groomer will pay the proper attention to your pet, which brings us to the next reason why it’s so important to get your dog groomed.

#4: Your Dog Groomer May Catch Things You Don’t: By paying the proper attention to your dog, we mean that your groomer can catch lumps, moles, growths, ticks, inflammations and other skin problems. And catching these types of things early can keep your dog living healthily for a very long time.

#3: De-shedding: Think of how much fur would be kept at bay and off of your furniture with proper and regular dog grooming. By making your dog an appointment every six weeks, you can keep your house looking and smelling its best.

#2: Keep Your Pet Looking and Smelling Nice: A well-groomed dog is a beautiful dog. Just because your dog is an animal doesn’t mean he or she needs to look scruffy and smell like the outside. Your dog provides you with unconditional love, so pamper your dog once in a while by scheduling regular pet grooming appointments.

#1: It’s What Pet Owners are Supposed To Do: Again, proper and regular dog grooms are the responsibility of the responsible dog owner. All dogs need to be groomed and the sooner you make an appointment, the better.

To schedule your dog’s appointment, contact Live.Love.Pet!, now serving the areas of Kaimuki, Manoa Valley, Palolo, Waikiki, Makiki & Hawaii Kai. Call (808) 734-8282 or visit us at 1126 12th Avenue #103 in Honolulu. Or fill out our pre-groom form and we’ll call you.

Whichever way you choose, we can’t wait to meet you and we certainly can’t wait to give your dog the best groom style you can find in Hawaii. Make your appointment right now and show your dog just how much you care. Mahalo!

Top 10 Reasons Why Pet Grooming Costs More Than Your Haircut!

11/21/2014

Picture
At Live.Love.Pet! we offer the fairest and most consistent pet grooming fees in Hawaii. While we do our best to keep our grooming prices as low as possible, our fees do end up costing more than most human haircuts. Here are the top ten tongue-and-cheek reasons why that is.

# 10: Your hairdresser doesn’t wash and clean your rear end.

While only some haircuts come with a shampoo included, all pet grooming packages come with a full shampoo and trim. But we also clean out your pet’s butt, which would be mighty awkward if your hairdresser tried to do the same thing during your beauty appointment.

# 9. You don’t go eight weeks without washing or brushing your hair.

Most people wash and comb their hair at least several times per week, and many do it every single day. Your pet? Not so much. So when you bring your pet to the grooming salon, your certified groomer may have to deal with a tangled mess of fur, cockleburs and who knows what else. They’re glad to do it, but they have a far harder job than your hairdresser does.

# 8. Your hairdresser doesn’t give you a sanitary trim (down there).

Your hairdresser has it easy by only having to trim the hair on your head. If your hairdresser had to give your ‘southern area’ a trim, your hair appointments would probably start to cost a lot more.

# 7. Your hairdresser doesn’t clean your ears.

Wouldn’t it be nice if a haircut came with a thorough ear cleaning? How relaxing would it be to not have to worry about getting wax build-up? Since you have to clean your own ears, your hairdresser doesn’t need to charge for it. But with pet grooming, ear cleaning is a very necessary job that must be done by skilled and trained hands, and that’s the reason for the small fee increase.

# 6. Your hairdresser doesn’t remove the snot and boogers from your nose.

Just like mom used to do, a hairdresser doesn’t get a Kleenex, hold it to your nose and tell you to blow. Nope, they cut and style your hair and that’s it. Your pet groomer, on the other hand, needs to become very familiar with your pet’s nose…and eyes! Some dogs have overactive tear ducts that cause gunk and mucous to build up, and that’s often worse than what your pet’s nose could ever think to produce. We clean it all, and we’re happy to do it!

# 5. You actually manage to sit still for your hairdresser.

How much more do you think your hairdresser would charge if they constantly had to tell you to hold still, or even if they had to restrain you in the seat to do a good job? Probably a little bit more than they’re charging you right now.

While we never restrain our pets, we do have to put up with ornery or otherwise rambunctious pets that refuse to stay still. We love all pets big, small, excited or calm, but cutting a pet’s hair that doesn’t sit still can be a difficult job that only a certified groomer is skilled enough to handle.

# 4. Your haircut doesn’t include a manicure or pedicure.

In a perfect world, your haircut would include nail treatments to both hands and feet. Well, now you can consider that your pet is in fact living in a perfect world, because pet grooming includes 4-paw nail treatments, too!

# 3. Your hairdresser only washes and cuts the hair on your head.

As pet groomers, we are often required to become familiar with every part of your pet’s body. Your hairdresser doesn’t have quite the same privilege.

# 2. You don’t bite or scratch your hairdresser.

Because if you did, you’d quickly get arrested. While we certainly don’t like to be bitten or scratched during pet grooming appointments, we know that it’s one of the hazards of the job; and we know how to protect against it. Your hairdresser would have little defense if you decided to suddenly become rabid during your haircut appointments.

# 1. The likelihood of you pooping on your hairdresser is pretty slim.

While there may be instances when you just can’t make it to the restroom, chances are you’ll alert your hairdresser before things turn foul. Your pet, on the other hand, will probably just let the poo fly, and that’s also one of the hazards of our job.

Your hairdresser sure has it easy, but there’s no chance they love their jobs more than our certified pet groomers do. And our fees may be slightly higher than the average human haircut, but not by much. Bring your pet into Live.Love.Pet! and we’ll give your special loved one a head-to-tail pet treatment that’s not only AFFORDABLE, but it’ll be one that always has you coming back for more.

It’s Pet Cancer Awareness Month. Help Us Spread the News

11/14/2014

Picture
November is pet cancer awareness month and we’d love if you’d help us spread the word. Just as cancer affects many humans the world over, 1/3rd of all cats and ½ of all dogs over ten years of age may die of cancer. Notice the key word there is ‘may’.

By spreading awareness of this disease, we can help to fund charities and in turn fight pet cancer, which takes many of our furry loved ones away from us far too soon.

First, it’s important to prevent cancer before it has a chance to grow in your little one’s body. That’s step one. You can prevent cancer by getting your pet spayed or neutered. Here are three very important reasons why.

1. Getting Your Pet Fixed Regulates Hormones: No matter how old your pet may be, spaying or neutering your pet dramatically reduces the risk of contracting cancer throughout your pet’s lifetime. That’s a very good thing.

2. The Earlier the Better, Especially if Your Pet is Female: Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of pet cancer in females. By getting your female pet spayed prior to her first heat, breast cancer can largely be avoided.

3. The Risk for Contracting Testicular Cancer is Virtually Eliminated: If your pet is male and you get him properly neutered, he will never in his lifetime develop testicular cancer.

So you see, young or old, big or small, your pet will definitely benefit from that all-important vet appointment.

If you suspect that your pet may have cancer, these are the steps to follow.

Key Facts About Cancer in Pets

1.       Get a Biopsy: It’s very important never to attempt to diagnose pet cancer on your own. That’s because cancer in pets can mimic many other illnesses and diseases. Your vet can make the true determination, and a biopsy is the best way to do it.

2.       Get Treatment: If it is determined that your pet has cancer, your vet may recommend one or more forms of treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.

3.       Maintain Hope: The earlier your vet can catch your pet's cancer, the better the prognosis will be for your furry best friend (FBF).

In a perfect world, cancer would be cured and we’d never have to worry about the awful ‘C’ word rearing its ugly head. But this isn’t a perfect world, cancer in pets does exist and this is our effort to spread the news about it.

So, to review:

Step 1: Get your pet spayed or neutered.

Step 2: Get your pet checked out if you suspect your pet has cancer.

Step 3: Listen to your vet and maintain hope.

Pet Cancer Awareness Month is here. Help us spread the word by sharing our blog post on your various social media accounts. Mahalo!

How to Ease Your Cat’s Fear of the Grooming Salon

11/8/2014

Ease Your Cat's Fear of the Pet Grooming Salon | Live.Love.Pet! Kaimuki, Honolulu, HI
Does your growl and hiss at the mere mention of the pet grooming salon? If so, your pet’s not alone. Many cats have an inherent fear of the grooming salon, and for good reason. Most salons smell just like the vet’s office. Your cat doesn’t know he or she is about to get a nice bath and fur-cut. Instead, your cat probably thinks he’s going to get a shot or worse. Whether your cat is timid or downright mean when it comes time for a quality cat groom, here is how to alleviate your cat’s fear just in time for your pet’s first Kaimuki cat grooming appointment.

  1. Identify the Triggers: As your cat’s owner, you should be aware of the triggers that set your cat off. Is it the carrier or the actual pet grooming salon that has your pet on edge? If it's the carrier, you might try a different one. If it's the salon, bring your pet in early to get used to the grooming environment. Here are some other tricks you can try once you've identified what's making your little one such a scaredy cat.

  2. Carrier Tricks: If your cat is afraid of the pet carrier you use, try acclimating your cat to the carrier gradually over time. A few weeks before your pet's appointment, let your cat wander in and out of the carrier while it remains on your living room floor. To entice your cat to check the carrier out (which your cat probably will anyway out of curiosity), place a food bowl inside for your cat to find. This way your cat will begin to associate the carrier as something good instead of something to run away from.

  3. Bring Your Cat By Anytime: If your cat is fearful of our Honolulu pet grooming salon, we invite you to come by with your cat anytime. For best results, bring your cat in to have a look around and to experience love and treats from our animal-loving staff. The idea is to get your cat to relax so that bringing your pet in for his or her appointment becomes much easier.

  4. How to Bring Your Cat In: When it’s time to come in for your cat’s first spaw day appointment, don’t dangle the pet carrier. Instead, hold it close to your chest to make your pet feel much more secure. For even better results, prime the pet carrier with a feline pheromone spray or wipe. Pheromones can help your pet become much more relaxed, and all that fear and anxiety will melt away.

  5. Make Cat Grooming a Regular Thing: The more you bring your cat in to Live.Love.Pet! Hawaii’s Only ‘Zen’ Grooming Spaw & Boutique, the less fearful your cat will be. Make sure you bring your cat in at least 10 minutes prior to every appointment to give your cat a chance to get used to the surroundings and fully relax just in time for his or her spaw day.

We love our cat clients and can’t wait to meet yours. Call (808) 734-8282 to schedule a Kaimuki cat grooming appointment or fill out our online pre-groom form and we’ll call you. Mahalo!

Top 10 Reasons to Get Your Dog Groomed in Kaimuki, Honolulu

10/31/2014

Pet Grooming Reasons - Live.Love.Pet! Honolulu Pet Grooming
If you live in Honolulu and you haven’t had your pet groomed, what are you waiting for? There is no better time than right now to surprise your pet with a very special Spaw Day. If you need a reason to schedule a pet grooming appointment other than to do something special for your furry best friend, here are the top ten reasons to call Live.Love.Pet! in Kaimuki, Honolulu to schedule your dog’s special day right now.

  1. Holiday parties: Do you really want your guests hobnobbing with your shaggy and not-so-nice-smelling dog while they’re enjoying your delicious o-d'oeuvres this holiday season? If you schedule a Kaimuki pet grooming appointment today, Instead of snubbing your dog, your guests will gush about how great your dog looks (and smells).
  2. Family Photos & Portraits: The holidays are times when the family comes together. Do you really want photos of your family to feature your shaggy pet? A dog or cat groom will ensure that your pet is picture-perfect, whether it’s an impromptu holiday snap or a family portrait at Sears.
  3. Holiday Cards: Speaking of pet photos, your groomed pet will make the perfect centerpiece to a holiday card sent to everyone on your list. A groomed pet is the perfect way to make all your friends and family say 'awww the moment they open the envelope.
  4. Keep a Cleaner House: When you get your Honolulu pet groomed, you’ll cut down on the amount of impurities that get rubbed into your carpet and onto your furniture. That would be one thing if the impurities stayed in the fabric of your carpet and furniture, but all that nastiness can get kicked up into the air that you and your family breathe. Grooming your pet can thus improve the quality of the air you breathe.
  5. You Can Carry Your Pet as an Accessory: Imagine yourself carrying your cat around the streets of Kaimuki like Taylor Swift, or carrying your dog like Mariah Carey. You’ll be the talk of Honolulu, and your pet will be too.
  6. Make a Statement: Want to express yourself through your pet? We often get clients who want - say, a mohawk for Halloween or a complete pink makeover for breast cancer awareness. Let your Kaimuki pet groomer know what statement you want to make and we’ll help your pet stand out.
  7. Show Your Dog’s Inner Personality: We’ve discussed expressing YOU through your pet, but what about what your pet wants? Shouldn’t you allow your pet to express him or herself? A mohawk, fluffy ears or a puppy cut could allow your pet’s inner-self to emerge.
  8. Turn Heads at the Dog Park: You don’t want to be judged as the person with the shaggiest and dirtiest dog at the dog park. Get your dog or cat groomed by our certified Kaimuki pet groomers and you’ll get noticed. You might even get a few numbers if you’re single.
  9. Treat Your Pet: Your pet does so much for you. Isn’t that worth a spaw day? A quick dog grooming appointment in our Honolulu dog grooming salon could be just what your pet needs to feel happy and satisfied.
  10. Improve Your Pet’s Quality of LIfe: Our Honolulu pet groomers love animals and we have a policy of caring for the pets in our care just as we would care for our own pets. That includes checking their skin, coat, paws and nails for growths and skin conditions, all while we scrub and refine your pet from the outside in.

While vanity and fun are indeed great reasons to get your Honolulu pet groomed, giving your pet a better quality of life is the best reason of all.

Call (808) 734-8282 to schedule your pet’s first Kaimuki pet groom and get 10% your first appointment. (Fill out our pre-groom form to expedite the registration process.)
