Questions About Your Cat
Q: Can You Clip My Cat's Claws? Can I Do It Myself?![]() A: At Live.Love.Pet! in Kaimuki, Honolulu, we will gladly trim your cat's claws. All you have to do is ask at the time of your appointment.
If you want to attempt to clip your cat's claws yourself, please use extreme caution. Cats have nail quicks just like dogs do, and these can bleed if you clip them accidentally. Clipping the quick is also not a very good experience for your cat. It's akin to catching the tip of your finger when you're clipping your fingernails. While we recommend that only trained professionals trim their cat's claws, you can attempt the procedure yourself. Use cat nail clippers that are more equipped for cat's claws. They're also smaller and easier to use. Here is a message from the Humane Society about trimming your cat's claws, or we can guide you through the process. Ask your Kaimuki, Honolulu pet groomer for more details. |

Q: Do Cats Need Their Anal Glands Expressed?

A: Anal gland expression for cats is recommended, but it requires an expert and it must be performed very carefully. If you want your groomer to express your cat's anal glands, we will do our best, but we will not force the procedure.
If the glands do not express easily, we recommend taking your cat to the vet to have the glands expressed properly.
Ask your cat groomer in Honolulu for more details.

Q: Why is Cat Grooming More Expensive Than Dog Grooming?

A: A cat scratch or bite can be detrimental to our careers. For that reason, we ask that you please be HONEST when informing your Honolulu Hawaii cat groomer if your cat is naughty, has claws or if he/she will bite/scratch one of our staff members. Even if your cat is generally easy-going and/or declawed, we still ask that you bring your cat in to our pet grooming salon an appropriately-sized pet carrier.
If your cat tends to be aggressive, we may use a cat air muzzle, which is a global muzzle that goes around your cat's head. This is the safest and most compassionate way to muzzle cats, and our certified Oahu pet groomers will only use this method when extreme circumstances call for it.
If you have a naughty cat, we may recommend that you get a mild sedative from your vet prior to your appointment for everyone's safety.
The above is why cat grooming appointments are more expensive than dog grooming appointments in Honolulu. But that definitely doesn't mean we don't love our feline clients. We most certainly do love cats and we welcome yours, even if he or she tends to get a little ornery at times. We'll do our best to provide a 'zen-like' experience to keep your cat feeling comfortable and soothed during every cat grooming appointment.
