- Questions About Your Dog-
Q: Why Does My Dog Hate Going to the Pet Grooming Salon?A: If you walk into our Kaimuki pet grooming salon and your dog is absolutely terrified, it could be for a number of reasons. Some pets don't like the groomers because it smells just like the vet's office. No wonder your dog is freaking out!
Some dogs have had bad experiences with other groomers, and that means that it's that much harder for our certified Honolulu pet groomers to form a bond with your pet. However, we are certainly up for the challenge. Whether your dog is shivering, barking or threatening to bite, we will do whatever we can to make your pet feel comfortable and soothed from beginning to end - and from head to tail. From the moment you drop your dog off, our pet groomers in Honolulu will treat your furry best friend (FBF) with the same care and attention as if they were grooming their very own pets. We use a combination of aromatherapy, calming music and kennels stocked with lavender infused blankies to help your pet feel extra-relaxed. We will then reward your pet for being so good with plenty of praise, a healthy treat and plenty of doggy kisses. Once your dog associates that Zen-like experience with Live.Love.Pet! Honolulu dog grooming, coming to the groomers won't be so scary anymore, and you'll have a much easier time dropping your pet off. Give our dog groomers a single appointment and we'll give your dog a spaw day adventure that will make all fears of the groomer melt away. |

Q: Why Does it Look Like Hair is Growing Inside My Dog's Ear Canal?
A: Well, that is because hair is in fact growing inside your dog's ear canal. Dog breeds were created using selective breeding and man created different dogs for very specific purposes. During this process the genetic blueprints of various breeds got a little hairy (No pun intended). That means that some dogs now have hair growth inside their ear canals.
This hair must be removed to keep the ears clean and healthy. If the hair is not taken care of, then your pooch will be more susceptible to ear infections, yeast build up and even potential hearing loss.
Dogs with drop ears in particular must be given extra attention because their ears are not well ventilated, so they are even more susceptible to various ear problems. Ask your certified Kaimuki dog groomer about your dog's ear hair to get a specific answer that's customized just for your FBF.
Now Fido likes the sound of that!

Q: What's That Smell? You Have to Do What to My Adorable Little Dog's Anal Glands?
A: Many pet owners are not aware of their dog's historical roots. This being said, the history of the dog goes way back to his tracking days as a wolf. In the wild, wolves use their anal glands to mark their territories, alert family members to predators, and track their way back to food sources.
Because little Fido does not need to mark his way back to his food dish living in your home, your dog's anal glands can get backed up. All dogs have anal glands located on both sides of their rectum and, though as humans we may find this smell a little disturbing, our little Fido sometimes needs our help expressing any build-up.
Modern day dogs of medium to large sizes are usually able to express their glands naturally while using the restroom, but a lot of small dogs need this done manually. Unfortunately, if Fido's anal glands get impacted, this can cause a serious threat to his health, not to mention lead to expensive vet bills.
Your certified Honolulu dog groomer can express your dog's anal glands. Ask at the time of your appointment.

Q: Why is Nail Trimming So Difficult For My Dog?
A: How many times have you been defeated trying to cut your dog's nails? If your precious little dog turns vicious and crazy at the mere sight of the nail clippers, he or she is definitely not alone.
A dog's nails are tools that are used regularly in the wild and a dog is naturally-inclined to want to preserve his or her nails as much as possible. Though the process is definitely not easy, nail trimming by a certified dog groomer in Honolulu is crucial for your dog's health. Sometimes a team effort is required and there are different techniques that us groomers use to get the job done.
Ask at the time of drop-off and we'll gladly include nail trimming services to your pet's next Spaw Day.

Q: Why Is Regular Nail Trimming Important For My Dog's Health?
A: If left alone, your dog's nails could grow past his or her paw pads, and this can become very painful. We're talking wincing pain with each step. As Fido is attempting to walk around on his overgrown nails, at least four things are happening: First, his nails can become splayed. Second, his quicks could grow too long. Third, his nails could actually grow INTO his paw pad. And fourth, because he can't balance his weight properly, the long nails can actually cause a dis-alignment of his spine and/or hip dysplasia.
The good news is, there is an easy fix - get your dog's nails trimmed by one of our certified dog groomers in Kaimuki, Honolulu regularly. We recommend that you get your dog's nails trimmed every 4-6 weeks. Of course, nail trimming and buffing will all be part of his Spaw Day at Live.Love.Pet!

Q: What Are Nail Quicks? Why Did My Dog's Nails Bleed When I Trimmed Them?
A: Inside each of Fido's nails is a vein that is referred to as the nail quick. The quick will grow as the nail grows, so if your dog's nails are too long, chances are the quicks are also too long.
If you happen to cut the quick while trimming your dog's nails, your dog will bleed and it will become painful. The only way to shorten the quick is to shorten your dog's nails.
Fortunately, the quick will retract back and stay at an appropriate and healthy length with proper care and maintenance. We promise that Fido will be ever- so- grateful if he never has to experience a nail quicking. So let's spread the word for healthy nails and keep Fido smiling and not always so mad at his Kaimuki dog groomer!

Q: Why Should I Brush My Dog's Teeth?
A: Our pets have teeth and gums just like we do and without regular oral care, they are susceptible to gum disease, cavities, gingivitis and heart problems. Severe neglect can even lead to death.
If your dog's teeth require a cleaning at the vet, this can cost you hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Unfortunately, getting your dog's teeth brushed one time during his grooming appointment will not miraculously wipe away all of the plaque and tartar build up. But as a part of his Honolulu dog grooming package Live.Love.Pet!, we will help you take the first steps in keeping your pet's teeth and gums healthy.

Q: Why Does the Hair on the Bottom of My Dog's Feet Seem to Cover His Paw Pads?
A: The simple answer is that the hair on the bottom of your dog's feet grows just like everywhere else on his or her body. But don't worry, there is a simple solution.
During your pet's Honolulu dog grooming appointment, we will remove all of the unwanted hair that covers the paw pads. This is actually a very important component to Fido's dog grooming because the hair between the toes can get matted. And owners seldom think to brush the bottom of Fido's feet.
The hair can collect burs, twigs, sand and other debris. Can you imagine how uncomfortable it would be if you had a rock stuck between your toes and no fingers to remove it?
The hair can also make walking very slippery, which is especially unwanted for our senior pets or dogs with bad hips. Imagine walking around on your freshly mopped floor with a wig under your feet? And if you are still not convinced, what is cuter than a freshly groomed dog paw pad print, really?!
